THEME: SANKOFA

(an Akan expression that tasks us with going back into our past in order to acquire nuggets of knowledge to inform our future)

This year, we will be using the Creative Arts to facilitate students’ engagement with Ghana’s social and cultural past. This is to be achieved by using the theme, Sankofa (an Akan expression that tasks us with going back into our past in order to acquire nuggets of knowledge to inform our future) to guide our Creative Writing and Creative Expression activities.

The theme - Sankofa - is intended to serve as our contribution to the many year-round activities that are currently taking place in the country for “The Year of Return, Ghana 2019”.

A key aspect of providing quality education is ensuring that students have excellent written and communication skills. In addition, there is much scientific evidence that speaks to the importance of the arts in any approach to education that means to be wholistic.

This ties in with our aim to provide a rare focus on Creative Writing that is at the service of each student’s exploration of arts and culture.

The program will be delineated by two key strands that occur each day:
1) A Creative Writing strand that runs from 9.00 am to 11.00 am; and
2) A Creative Expression strand from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm
